Evaluating Humorous Features: Towards a Humour Taxonomy

چکیده
The importance of the analysis of processes related to cognitive phenomena through Natural Language Processing techniques is acquiring a greater relevance every day. Opinion Mining, Sentiment Analysis or Automatic Humour Recognition are a sample about how this kind of research works grows. In this paper we focus on the study of how the features that define a corpus of humorous data (one-liners) may be used for obtaining a set of parameters that allow us to build a primitive taxonomy of humour. We analyse, through several experiments, a set of well-known features defined in the literature, besides a set of new ones, in order to determine the importance of each one for a humour taxonomy. An evaluation of all the features was performed by means of an automatic classification task over a collection of humorous blogs. The results obtained show that some of the features may represent elemental information for the purpose of creating a humour taxonomy.

Characterizing Humour: An Exploration of Features in Humorous Texts
This paper investigates the problem of automatic humour recognition, and provides and in-depth analysis of two of the most frequently observed features of humorous text: human-centeredness and negative polarity. Through experiments performed on two collections of humorous texts, we show that these properties of verbal humour are consistent across different data sets.
متن کاملThe Impact of Semantic and Morphosyntactic Ambiguity on Automatic Humour Recognition
Humour is one of the most amazing characteristics that defines us as human beings and social entities. Its study supposes a deep insight into several areas such as linguistics, psychology or philosophy. From the Natural Language Processing (NLP) perspective, recent researches have shown that humour can be automatically generated and recognized with some success. In this work we present a study ...
متن کاملEvaluating humorous properties of texts
The success of a humour-generation program is usually assessed by having human judges rate texts. However, there has been little consideration of the patterns shown by such judgements, particularly in terms of consistency. We present two small studies which attempt to gauge the consistency of human judgements about humorous aspects of texts, and discuss some of the methodological issues involved.
متن کاملUsing humour as an extrinsic source of emotion regulation in young and older adults.
It has been suggested that intrinsic abilities for regulating emotions remain stable or improve with ageing, but, to date, no studies have examined age-related differences in extrinsic emotion regulation. Since humour has been found to be an effective form of emotion regulation, we used a paradigm similar to that of Strick and colleagues (2009) with two objectives: to compare extrinsic humorous...

An empirical crosscultural data analysis of a storytelling spectacle in Japan, rakugo, has been conducted to evaluate the role that the prosody plays in humour. It has been found that laughing effects depended on the interaction of prosodic features and dialectal markers as well as the audience’s reaction in storytellers' discourse. That is, the prosodic account to explain the humorous value of...
